Ashantilly once again set up in Art in the Park during the Blessing of the Fleet. New this year were T-Shirts and Tote Bags printed on a small etching press donated to the Print Shop. Thanks to Nicholas Silberg, Chair of the Art Department at Savannah State University, who carved a beautiful wood block with a shrimp image for us to use. Board members Cathy and Sara turned Print Shop into Sweat Shop and printed many items prior to the festival. They were a huge success and the design won Honorable Mention in the judging!
Ashantilly set up a booth at Woodbine's annual Jazz & Art Festival. Letterpress printing was demonstrated with the small Kelsey tabletop press, and visitors to the booth were given a momento of the event! Arts and crafts were displayed and great jazz played! A beautiful setting along the Satilla Riverwalk added to the atmosphere.
DNR, Coastal Wildscapes, 4H, Keep McIntosh Beautiful and Ashantilly came together to plant seeds for native flowers and wildflowers. 4th and 5th grade 4H students spread seed on 20 different prepared beds along GA Hwy 99 near the new bike path!
Board member Allen Perkins is watering, but join us in wishing for some rain!
Once again, Tim Rutherford brought wonderful selections for participants to try, including some very hard-to-get distilleries! This was Tim’s last tasting with us, as he has moved to Asheville. We are grateful for all his help!
Dr. Kiernan, Professor Emeritus, presented a program about late 19th Century Black History in the Golden Isles. The well-attended lecture was followed with a reception.
Great fun in the Print Shop! Lots of valentines printed as students learned to set their own type and then print on 3 different presses! Wine and chocolate provided by instructor Nick Silberg rounded out the day very nicely!
Old Tabby looked grand in her Christmas finery! Yummy holiday treats and mulled wine and beautiful music from Camerada made for a festive evening
