The Ashantilly Press Project

The Ashantilly Press is Excited to Announce
Martin Mazorra as our Next Artist in Residence

The Ashantilly Center in Darien, Georgia, is pleased to announce that Martin Mazorra has been selected as the Summer 2026 Artist-in-Residence at the Ashantilly Press. Mazorra will spend three weeks in June working at the historic press, creating new works inspired by the craft and tradition of letterpress printing. Everyone is invited to meet Martin at the Ashantilly Press Artist in Residence Meet and Greet on Thursday, June 4, from 4 until 6 p.m.

Born in Morgantown, West Virginia, in 1972, Mazorra earned his BFA from West Virginia University in 1994 and his MFA from American University in Washington, D.C. in 1996. An accomplished printmaker and book artist, he has been invited to speak at numerous respected institutions including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, Hui Press in Maui, the University of Northern Illinois, Auburn University, the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Amherst College, and the University of Kentucky. He was awarded a Marie Walsh Sharpe Space Program studio in 1999 and received a 2007 NYFA Fellowship in Printmaking, Drawing, and Artists’ Books.

During his residency, Mazorra will make use of Ashantilly’s antique letterpress equipment to produce new prints and book art projects. His time at the Press will conclude with a closing reception on Wednesday, June 17, from 4–6 p.m., where guests will have the opportunity to view the work created during the residency and learn more about Mazorra’s artistic process.

The Ashantilly Artist-in-Residence program provides artists with the rare opportunity to work in a setting rich with history and surrounded by the natural beauty of coastal Georgia. With access to the Ashantilly Press’s historic equipment, visiting artists explore and expand the traditions of letterpress printing while sharing their creative vision with the community.

Ashantilly Center is thrilled to welcome Martin Mazorra to the Press and looks forward to the inspiration and creativity his residency will bring. His work will be a vibrant addition to the Center’s ongoing mission to celebrate and preserve the arts, history, and environment of coastal Georgia.
