Ashantilly is excited to announce that our 2024 Summer Artist Residency has been granted to Laurie Darby.
“I am an African American printmaker and book maker living in Savannah and have resided here for over 30 years. I was born and raised in Philadelphia and part of my family originated in middle Georgia.
My goal is to make an edition of books about the Weeping Time which occurred in the mid 1800s. This event is particularly interesting to me because it involved Savannah, Darien, and Philadelphia. My desire is to make a tunnel book that will memorialize the lives of the slaves who suffered as a result of this event.”
