Ink and Inspiration: A Magical Weekend at the Ashantilly Press

On the last weekend in April, the Ashantilly Press came alive with creativity and the quiet rhythm of hands at work during a truly magical Linoleum Block Carving Class. Tucked beneath the canopy of coastal beauty, the studio welcomed four eager students, each ready to explore the art of printmaking in an inviting and inspiring setting.

From the very beginning, there was a sense of excitement in the air. Participants were introduced to the essential techniques of linoleum carving. Learning how to handle their tools, create clean lines, and bring contrast and texture to life. With guidance and encouragement, each student selected an image that spoke to them personally, then carefully began carving their own unique block.

As the designs emerged, so did a growing sense of accomplishment. Each carved block was proofed, allowing students to see their work translated into print for the first time, an exciting and often surprising moment that brought their efforts to life in ink. Small adjustments were made, details refined, and confidence steadily built.

The final stage of the class brought everything together as each student printed multiple copies of their finished designs. The press revealed image after image, each one a reflection of individual creativity and newly learned skill. There was a shared joy in the room as prints were lifted, admired, and celebrated.

More than just a class, the weekend was an experience filled with connection, creativity, and discovery. Everyone who attended left not only with a collection of their own handmade prints, but with a sense of pride and inspiration that will surely carry into future artistic pursuits.

As the class came to a close, one thing was clear: this would not be their last time at Ashantilly. With smiles, gratitude, and ink-stained hands, all four students departed already looking forward to their next visit, and to many more creative opportunities at the Ashantilly Press.
